I’ve created another simple script to do backups on a linux filesystem using ‘rsync’. The trick here is that I’m using hard-links to point to files that have not been modified between the backups. If the data folder is 50% utilized, then you should be safe keeping with the backups and the system not running out of disk space when you move large files around. This isn’t meant to scare you off, and I’m sure it’ll work on disks with higher utilization, but it’s certainly something to watch out for.
The script can be accessed here on my Github account. It’s a perl script, but it should be easy enough to follow.
Hope it helps. Please comment if it does, or if you have questions.
