A few weeks ago, I posted about my new electric kick scooter. Well, apparently, those walker wheels weren’t designed to go at the speeds I was going on the streets of the city. They literally split down the middle.
Clearly, it’s not a solid rubber wheel. I took the second one (as they came in pairs) and drilled four holes into which I squirted some rubber glue. No dice.
I’ve ordered these 140mm replacement scooter wheels from firecloudcycles. It’s a tad smaller than the original, but it should be fine. I don’t really notice the ride being harsher on the solid rear wheel. I just hope the wheel stays together.
All in all, the scooter’s been great when I’ve been riding it. It cuts the walking part of my commute down by half, and I get to whizz by all those cars stopped in traffic. I feel safe riding it on the side of the road. The only drawback is now I need to make time to go to the gym.
Update: I blew out the bearings on the replacement. Read about that here.
